Morgagni: THE SEATS AND CAUSES OF DISEASE, 3 vol.

The importance of Morgagni can scarcely be overestimated. His work has been characterized by a number of commentators as being on a level with the contributions of Lister and Vesalius, ranking not far behind that of Harvey. Morgagni laid the groundwork for his successors to formulate the basic principles of pathologic anatomy that are the foundation of modern clinical medicine.

Indeed, no less a figure than Rudolf Virchow, in whose brilliant hands that discipline reached its grandest fulfullment, has pointed out that medicine did not reach its true importance until Morgnagni's magnum opus had appeared.

The annals of pathology are repleat with Morgagani's pervasive influence over that profession. As Sal Jarcho has commented, "His epomyns so profusely abound in manuals of dissection that medical students regard Morgnagi as a sort of ubiquitous ghost of the charnel house, haunting all parts of the cadaver, and ready to emerge at any moment from a gland or a duct."

Rarely have there been better clinical descriptions of lobar pneumonia, intestinal obstructions, syphilitic aortitis, aortic stenosis, Stokes-Adams heart block, coarctation, or a host of other disease entities than those which are to be found in Morgagni's great work.

These exquisite volumes are from a series of classics produced over a decade during the 1970s and 1980s, the majority of which are still in private hands. Our sole available set contains the bookplate of the original owner affixed to the endsheets. We will supply bookplates for you to paste over the originals if you so desire.
