Myerson: Inheritance of Mental Diseases (1925)

Abraham Myerson's THE INHERITANCE OF MENTAL DISEASE

Myerson studied data collected at the state hospital in Taunton, Mass, where he served as medical director and pathologist from 1913 to 1917. Myerson determined that 10 percent of the 130 families in the study had had more than one member hospitalized for mental illness.

Myerson concluded that schizophrenia and manic-depressive psychosis seem to "run in families" but that other mental diseases such as neurasthenia and hysteria, have "no hereditary value."
