Although The Encyclopaedia Britannica has presented the last word on the knowledge of its time since its first edition in 1768, never before have the most compelling articles from its fifteen editions been collected in a single volume.  The daunting task of selecting the best of these respected words of scholarship was completed under the direction of the late Clifton Fadiman, a member of the Editorial Board of The Encyclopaedia Britannica.

Part One of the Treasury presents some 200 extracts, arranged into ten categories, showing the growth of knowledge over the past two centuries, and includes wonderful illustrations.
