Blackstone's COMMENTARIES ON THE LAWS OF ENGLAND, one of the bedrock classics of the English language has been reissued with a frequency thought to be second only to that of the Bible. These perennially important volumes were written in part to "instruct the rising generation in the wisdom of our civil polity, and inform them with a desire to be still better acquainted with the laws and constitution of their country."

Those are the words of Sir William Blackstone himself (1723- 1766). To Blackstone the English legal system was the foundation of English society. The preservation of liberty, he believed, required nothing less than a widely diffused understand of the law.

These large volumes bound in beautiful tan cowhide. The binding design replicated the original and features 22-karat gold stamping. Four-color marbleized endleaves and a silk ribbon marker add to the luxury. The paper is, of course, acid free, as befits a timeless classic first published between 1755 and 1758.
